My Recreation of the "King" Violin of Guarneri del Gesu

The original "King" violin was made in 1735. It is in excellent condition. The outline of the instrument has a bolder shape than the others built in the same year – the "d'Egville" and the "Plowden".
The nicely preserved edges are somewhat wider than usual, and the finely cut corners extended. The perpendicular F-holes have a very dignified appearance. They are reminiscent of the "Kreissler", but in a more open manner.
Since 2011, I have been building true reproductions of this special violin. I use wood in keeping with the original, similar in aspect and structure. The pieces of wood are acoustically matched in order to obtain the best tonal characteristics.
The construction and dimensions are taken from the original and replicated down to the finest detail. The finish is carefully recreated as closely as possible using an elastic, thinly applied varnish.
When all stages of work have been completed, the copy differs very little from the original. It embodies all the attributes of a real luthier masterpiece, not only in appearance but also in sound quality – enchanting and persuasive.
